The Bee Research Unit
was established in the year 2002 in response to the needs of
beekeeping sector and because of the increasing interest on this
sector by farmers. Unit made efforts to build cooperation with
farmers and beekeepers to improve the efficiency of this sector in
term of yield of hive products and pollination of economic crops,
the unit is conducting in honeybee productivity and the use of bees
in crop pollination.
Objectives of the Unit

Establishment of a research foundation to improve
apiculture.

Conducting applied and basic research in
apiculture.
-
Training and technology transfer of the recent
scientific apiculture research results.

Achievements:
-
Establishment of a central research apiary at
Maru Research Station.
-
Establishment of bee research lab and a lab for
artificial insemination to the queens in Maru Research Station.
-
Establishment of apiary in Rabba Research
Station.
-
Establishment of research apiary in Sharhabeel
Research Station.
-
Establishment of lab to study pollen grains and
some bee diseases in the central centre.
-
Establishment of lab for detection of bee viruses
by biotechnology techniques.
Technology Transfer
-
Publishing of seven books & booklets, brochure,
and leaflets in different apiculture subjects.
-
Publishing of experiments results in refereed and
public journals and in International apiculture proceedings and
conferences.
-
Issuing of two computer CDs about the unit
activities.
-
Ten TV and 30 Radio programs broadcasted in the
national radio and TV station.
-
Extension works including many training sessions
for local farmers, and participations in exceptions.
-
Training of Yameni, Iraqi, Palestinian, and Omani
Beekeepers and Researchers.
- The Bee Research Unit is looking for cooperation
nationally and internationally and ready to conduct training course,
technology transfer activities and joint researches.
